The challenge

Getting data is easy. Moving it well is hard.

Pulling operational data off the plant floor is no longer the problem — there are countless ways to do it. The real challenge is the lack of a standardized way to move that data between many systems, across every level of the corporate network, and for many different use cases at once — securely, robustly, and with its context intact.

Without that standard, every new use case demands a new method of extraction, and teams usually fall back on one of two workarounds — both of which create problems:

Common workaround 1

Repurpose legacy connections

It's tempting because the OT/IT bridge already exists — often a data historian spanning the two layers. But these systems are expensive and typically licensed per data point, so every point added just to pass data through raises licensing cost and load — while forcing a system meant to be a data consumer to act as a data pipeline.

Common workaround 2

Add another point tool

Or they bolt new connectivity software onto the OT infrastructure for that one use case. With no standardized method, this repeats with every project — leaving a tangle of overlapping data pipelines, one per use case, to secure and maintain.

White Room Automation designs and deploys a standardized data layer instead — so data is accessed once, at the source, and made available securely and with full context to every system, level and team. New use cases plug into the same layer rather than reconfiguring your control systems or adding yet another pipeline.

What we do

Connectivity that spans every layer

Collect at the edge

Acquire data from PLCs, controllers, sensors, historians, DCSs and RTUs across every major vendor system — using edge gateways that need no programming to deploy.

Transport with context

Move data reliably across OT, corporate and cloud networks with store-and-forward integrity, standardized metadata and preserved hierarchy — so nothing is lost or stripped of meaning.

Deliver to the cloud

Land governed, analytics-ready data in Azure, AWS, Microsoft Fabric, databases and enterprise platforms — enabling real-time analytics, AI and digital transformation.

Secure by design

Move data without opening your OT network. Connections can be configured outbound-only — no inbound firewall ports — while still supporting bidirectional flow where a use case requires it, all with end-to-end SSL/TLS encryption and certificate-based (X.509) authentication. Deployed through the industrial DMZ, this reverse-connection model shrinks the attack surface, while store-and-forward guarantees no data is lost.

See how it works

Build once, use everywhere

One data layer, every use case

Too often, OT/IT convergence happens one project at a time — a custom pipeline built for a single application. When the next use case arrives, that pipeline falls short, and the workarounds pile up into costly, ungovernable sprawl. We take a different approach: a Unified OT Data Layer that standardizes how operational data is accessed across OT, the DMZ, the business layer and the cloud — so every new application draws from the same governed source instead of starting over.

FAQ

Industrial data connectivity, answered

What does White Room Automation do?
White Room Automation is an industrial data connectivity company specializing in IIoT and OT/IT convergence. We connect and move operational (OT) data securely from the plant floor across corporate and cloud networks — so it's available, in context, to the analytics, AI and enterprise systems that use it.
What is a Unified OT Data Layer (UODL)?
A Unified OT Data Layer is a foundational, enterprise-wide layer that makes operational data available securely and with full context to any application or use case — across OT, the DMZ, the business layer and the cloud. It goes beyond a Unified Namespace (UNS) by also governing how data access is enabled, federated, secured and managed. It lets new use cases plug into one standardized source instead of each getting its own point-to-point pipeline.
What is OT/IT convergence?
OT/IT convergence is the secure integration of operational technology (control systems, PLCs, SCADA, historians) with information technology (enterprise and cloud systems). Done well, it gives IT and business teams governed access to real-time OT data without exposing control systems to risk — using outbound-only, standards-based connectivity aligned with IEC 62443.
Is White Room Automation a vNode distributor?
Yes. White Room Automation is the exclusive North American distributor of vNode, an edge and IIoT gateway platform. We help you select, license, deploy and support vNode for edge connectivity across OPC UA/DA, Modbus, Siemens S7, MQTT (including Sparkplug B) and more.
What is White Room Automation's relationship with Matrikon?
White Room Automation is a Matrikon partner. Matrikon (a Honeywell company) provides a trusted OT data foundation — secure, open connectivity, contextualized data, and access to legacy systems that only support OPC Classic (OPC DA). We design and deploy Matrikon technology as part of a complete plant-floor-to-cloud data layer.
How do you move OT data to the cloud securely?
Connections can be configured outbound-only — with no inbound firewall ports — while still supporting bidirectional flow where a use case requires it, all with end-to-end SSL/TLS encryption and certificate-based (X.509) authentication. Deployed through the industrial DMZ, this reverse-connection model shrinks the attack surface, and store-and-forward ensures no data is lost during an outage. We deliver to Azure, Microsoft Fabric, AWS, Google Cloud, historians and enterprise platforms.
